Digital staff writer - Insider Media - All

We are looking for a Digital Staff Writer to produce creative and engaging regional email news bulletins and contribute rolling business news to the Insider Media web hub.

The successful candidate will

  • Be an experienced journalist with good knowledge of b2b reporting. 
  • Have excellent writing skills and the ability to liaise with business leaders comfortably.
  • Have a good nose for business news and be capable of knowing how and where to dig out new angles, leading to exclusive stories.
  • Understand what busy business executives need from their news services
  • Leverage content from other Insider platforms, such as the monthly magazines and the range of Insider events
  • Deliver fresh and engaging news but also integrate SEO keywords and meta data content
Context

Digital is the fastest growth operation within Insider Media and has enormous potential. The company strategy is to develop In Print, In Person and On Line. These are done through regional centres in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff. Insider is expanding into other regions, but the digital team is based in our head office in Manchester.

Insider as a media brand produces monthly magazines read by more than 100,000 business executives and owners, and will stage 100 events this year.  Insider’s online newsletter subscriber base exceeded 110,000 across the UK and continues to grow in all ten regions.

Organisation

The Digital Staff Writer will work with the Digital News Editor and the Digital Editor and will liaise with the regional magazine editorial teams for news and comment.

Production assistant - Games Video Studio - Future - All

One of the UK's leading digital publishers, Future, Publishing, is looking for a Multimedia Production Assistant to work within our Games Video Studio.

The Games Video Studio creates video content for a wide variety of platforms and clients, and is made up of a great team of dedicated and enthusiastic individuals from whom you can learn.

The role will involve producing and working to strict weekly production schedules, capturing videogame footage, editing videogame footage and shoot-based footage with Final Cut Pro. You will convert footage for use across different media so knowledge of formats / video codecs is required, liaise with external partners and upload finished videos to CMS. The creation of bespoke video metadata and provision of support to the team is also part of the job.

To be successful in this role, you'll need to be an experienced user of Final Cut Pro or other professional video editing software and a creative video professional with a demonstrable skill set and varied portfolio of work. You will have experienced video capturing, editing and post production processes with good knowledge of video formats, codecs and converting from one format to another. A very keen interest in videogames as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills are also required.

Job purpose:
ZDNet’s production editor is responsible for the keeping the site alive with the latest news, reviews and other content. The ideal candidate will be able to focus on getting the details right while working under pressure and to tight deadlines. The Production Editor is a team player with more than a passing interest in IT.

Main tasks and responsibilities:
Ensure that all site content is up to date and accurate and presented in the best ways possible to attract the largest possible audience.
This will include:

  • Sub-editing a variety of editorial content across the site.
  • Checking editorial content with editors and reporters when necessary for accuracy, context, grammar, spellingand facts and maintaining consistency with house style.
  • Promoting signature editorial content by ensuring stories are optimised for SEO, in particular so that headlinesare attractive and engaging, and by day-to-day management of ZD’s social tools (Twitter, Facebook, G+ andothers).
  • Ensure the site is attractive by keeping the home page and other programmable elements across the site filled with timely and interesting content which is regularly updated

Experience and skills:
  • Two to three year's sub-editing on a professional publication.
  • Familiarity with a range of online environments – blogs and social networks, as well as more formal publications, would be advantageous.
  • Experience using content management systems and/or basic XHTML knowledge is desired, but not essential as full training will be provided, but the ability to pick up new skills and adapt old ones is essential.

We are looking for a keen editorial all-rounder, someone who is willing to get stuck in, to work on and help develop our magazines and special publications. This role will provide support in all areas of editorial, reporting to the Senior Editor and will involve writing features, subbing copy, commissioning work, forward planning, uploading materials to our websites, maintaining our social media output and some photography.

This opportunity would suit an experienced journalist with a good knowledge of the magazine industry. The ideal candidate needs to be well presented, as they will be required to represent our magazines in county, hold the NCTJ Preliminary Certificate in Journalism or equivalent and have a full valid driving licence and own transport. The ability to work flexibly is also required as some extended hours may be needed to fulfil the requirements of the role.

This is a full time position, however a request to job share will be considered. The position will be home based, in county, with one day per week in the Worthing office.

Main responsibilities


Editorial and Client Management

  • Oversee the creation of brilliant music (and to a lesser extent, action sports) related content for distribution across web and social media platforms, ensuring that all work is produced to the highest possible standard, is on brand and meets or exceeds the brief.

  • Substantial experience in the operational management of a major consumer website and/or social media channel, including the planning, conception, commissioning and delivery of digital content.
  • Excellent project management skills, with experience of managing budgets, estimates, calendars and schedules.
