We are currently seeking an Editorial Director and Project Manager to continue implementation of IWPR’s project in Tunisia. The successful candidate will have considerable journalistic and project management experience and will be fluent in Arabic and English.

Summary of Project:

The objective of the project is to foster the development of a pluralistic, participatory, and prosperous society in Tunisia by strengthening journalists, broadcasters, social media, traditional media organizations, and a broader civil society sector. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES           

  • Ensure that IWPR’s Tunisia programme is well managed and is delivering effective and relevant interventions within the country.

  • Oversee the effective delivery of services that allow journalists to improve their skills.

  • Oversee content of Arabic language website

  • Work to develop significant partnerships with both local and international organizations and donors within Tunisia.

  • Work with IWPR Development staff to conceptualize and plan new projects ,and seek funding for them.  

  • Work with the IWPR Development office to publicize (both within and outside Tunisia) the work and impact of programming, including direct and remote participation in briefings and presentations, and preparing data-rich materials that support programming effectiveness in an accessible and relevant manner.

  • Represent IWPR to donors, partner organizations and the wider international community.

  • Ensure that relevant editorial procedures and policies are in place and oversee their implementation.

  • Work with other senior staff to maintain and improve editorial values and quality of all training and published outputs.

  • Act as line manager to the project coordinator.

  • Provide appropriate working conditions, and at all times ensure the safety and security of international consultants and local team members.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Requirements:

Essential

College degree .

Experience of working in an international organization .

Experience of social media and modern production techniques in Tunisia.

Desirable

Master’s degree in international development or  in media with an  international focus.

Proven experience of building networks between traditional and informal media sectors.

Ability to work creatively and effectively with young media enthusiasts and media professionals.

Proven understanding of the Tunisian media environment with strong business skills and continuing links to commercial media operations in the country.

Extensive knowledge of communities outside Tunis and in the coastal regions.

Skills:

Practical approach to problem-solving.

Proven ability to manage projects in the context of Tunisian media.

Good communications and English writing skills.

Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Fluency in written and and spoken Arabic and English.

French desirable.
