Responsible for: No current direct line management but will be responsible for directing freelance on staff resources as required to meet brand objectives

Overview

This is a new role developed to support Insurance Times’ mission to generate timely, relevant and ‘must-read’ content with an innovative ‘twist’ in all platforms – print, online, SM and face-to-face.

You will work proactively with the Executive Editor, insurance Times, colleagues in Events, Commercial, Marketing and Product Development to (a) lead the fulfilment of the brand’s existing portfolio of Events (excluding the Insurance Times Awards, the Claims Excellence Awards and the Technology in Insurance Awards, and The Knowledge Programme) (b) spot new opportunities, driven by editorial ‘nouse’, contacts and audience need, and lead them from idea through to execution.

Specifically, you will drive the content agenda for the specific event, across all platforms, generating editorial content before, during and after. This will involve selecting and securing key contacts to contribute, including speaking as part of the event, although the logistics will be fully serviced by the in-house Events team. Your goal here is to build close relationships with key influencers across UKGI and, where appropriate, internationally.

You will be the senior editorial lead for the portfolio of events under your remit, including chairing and, where appropriate/relevant, delivering content yourself. You will be expected to develop a deep understanding of UKGI in short order and an ‘address book’ to match!

Specific objectives include:

  • Devising content programmes for a suite of 20+ planned events in 2013

  • Devising and executing content in all platforms - print, online, SM and face-to-face - before, during and after.

  • Actively writing and chairing events and functioning as the senior editorial lead with commercial partners, as relevant.

  • Commission and manage freelance contributions, and working with the Executive Editor, managing and directing in-house (staff) contributions from peers and others

Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience of working at a senior level within an fast paced, high pressured, editorial team and of managing editorial teams, from news editing level upwards

  • A track record of playing a key role in organising speakers for events and then managing the editorial content

  • B2B experience preferable, but not essential

Working the wider editorial team, ensure the MJ.co.uk content is up to date.
